Dr. Jane Lubchenco, scheduled to appear at the International Speakers Series tonight, was called back to Washington DC today by President Obama. As Chief Administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Dr. Lubchenco is a critical part of the management team dealing with the oil spill crisis in the Gulf of Mexico.

Tonight’s lecture will be given by Dr. Mark Hixon, Professor of Marine Biology at Oregon State University and renowned expert on the relationship between ocean acidification and climate change. Dr. Lubchenco will appear later in the spring, date to be announced. Refunds available at place of purchase.

As head of NOAA, Jane Lubchenco leads our nation’s efforts to meet environmental and ecosystem challenges. A MacArthur “genius” fellow, past President of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, member of the National Academy of Science, and former Professor at Oregon State University, Dr. Lubchenco is internationally recognized for her ground-breaking research on the ways in which human activities have unintentionally caused shifts in environmental stability.
